Obituary

RACINE – William L. Spreeberg, 91, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Monday, July 27, 2015. Bill was born in Racine on September 10, 1923 to Lawrence E. and Alma (nee, Gastrow) Spreeberg. On November 4, 1950 at Holy Trinity Church Bill married the former Mildred M. Pavelcik. She preceded him in death on May 11, 2005. Bill was a Sargent in the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving during WWII and Korea. In 2011 he and his son, Bill went to Washington D.C. on the Honor flight. Bill was an original member of the Kilties Drum Corp in 1934, playing drums, bugle and French horn. He loved the north woods, fishing and music. He also enjoyed pipe smoking; his extensive fishing tackle collection and he was affectionately known as "Grumpy Pants". Survivors include his son, William (Mary Jo) Spreeberg; daughter, Julie (Dan) Newborg; grandchildren, Aimee (James) Speers, Katie Newborg, Bryan (Liz) Bournoville and Adam (Cheryl) Bournoville; great-grandchildren, Ruby and Porter Speers, and Alex, Aiden and Brooke Bournoville; and sister-in-law, Geri Bowman. Bill is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wayne Robert Spreeberg; sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Jack Bell; and brother-in-law, Jesse F. Bowman. Memorial services for Bill will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at 6 p.m. A private family inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at 6 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.
