RACINE – William J. Goebel, Jr., 79, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Ridgewood Care Center. Bill was born in Racine on March 8, 1936 to William J. and Nancy (nee, Gotthardt) Goebel, Sr. He served in the U.S. Army. While stationed in France he met the former Judith Cook and they were married in Red Bank, NJ on August 27, 1960. Bill was an electrician with IBEW Local 430. In his younger years, Bill loved to play baseball, even trying out for the Milwaukee Braves. He continued his love for baseball playing City 16" Softball for many years. Bill was an avid Packer and Cubs fan. He loved camping, taking trips with his family and friends throughout Wisconsin including a special trip to Nevada. He loved woodworking, fixing his house and cabins up north on Boulder Lake, Bill's Lake, Adelaide Lake and Lake Tomahawk. Bill enjoyed taking walks to the Lake with his favorite dog Spencer, and sitting on the front porch, especially on the Fourth of July. Some of his favorites included, Dino's Prime Rib, pork chops, shrimp, poppy seed cake, custard pie and a good Old Fashioned! But most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. Survived by his wife, Judy Goebel; children, Scott (Belinda) Goebel, Chris Goebel, Gregg Goebel and Lisa Goebel; grandchildren, Adam (Melissa) Goebel, Emily Goebel and Amanda Goebel; great granddaughter, Emmalin Goebel; his brother, Tom (Janice) Goebel; sisters, Joni Carbonneau and Jane Krueger; and sisters-in-law, Carole (Bill) Dollarhide, Pam (Bill) Winegardner and Claudia Dunmyer. Bill is also survived by special friends, Judy and Lee Dickert, and Arlene and Jim Skendziel; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother-in-law, Robert Carbonneau. A memorial service for Bill will be held at the funeral home on Monday evening, June 1, 2015 at 6 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the funeral home on Monday evening from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at 6 p.m. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Ridgewood Care Center 2 East, Therapy staff and Hospice Alliance for the care Bill received.
