Virginia Kathleen Haugsby Racine – Virginia Kathleen Haugsby passed away unexpectedly at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. Ginny was born in Wausau, WI, the daughter of Arthur and Madeline (nee, Torkelson) Bloom. She married Oscar Haugsby in Wausau on February 11, 1950. Ginny was employed by the Racine Unified School District at S.C. Johnson Elementary School as a Kindergarten teacher for over 30 years, retiring in 1993. Ginny had a great love of life and her passion was her family. She especially enjoyed traveling with her family to Door County, WI and Gulf Shores, AL. Ginny was a kind, generous and unselfish person who loved people. She always saw the good in everything. She brought these qualities into her teaching and the many organizations she volunteered for within our community. Ginny is survived by her husband, Oscar Haugsby; children, Shelley (Dennis) Costello, Vickie Haugsby and Lisa (Jim) Leicht; grandchildren, Vaughn Scott Johnson, Jr., Zach Leicht and Mac Leicht; great-granddaughter, Madelyn Johnson; and her sisters and brother, Shirley Dalton, Phyllis (Lee) Glasel and Douglas (Mavis) Bloom. Ginny is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Bonnie Proell. A visitation for Ginny will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 11, 2011 beginning at 4 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 6 p.m. with Rev. Mary Janz officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to The American Association of University Women, or the Racine Education Association Scholarship Fund.
