Velma L. Nauta Racine - Velma L. Nauta, 92, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare on Wednesday, July 11, 2007. Velma was born in Augusta on December 16, 1914 to Walter and Susan (nee, Denning) Rogers. She moved with her family to Menominee, where she attended High School, worked as a beautician in the Vanity Beauty Salon, a secretary to the District Attorney and the College Dean of Men. Velma moved to Waukegan, IL in 1935 and married Clifford J. Nauta in Waukegan on November 1, 1936. She lived with her husband in Waukegan, worked as a secretary for the elementary school system and as a receptionist for a local orthodontist. Upon their retirement in 1975, they moved to San Diego, CA for 17 years, subsequently moving to Racine in 1994. They had been married for 70 years until his death on Saturday, July 7, 2007. Velma is a member of the First Presbyterian Church and has attended both the United Methodist and Presbyterian Churches, serving in several church groups. She was an active member of the Round Dance Club and the Sans Souci Formal Dinner Dance Club in San Diego, CA. Velma was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was always known for her kindness, her compassion, her clairvoyant wisdom, offering words of encouragement and guidance. She was considered 'God's little angel on earth.'Survivors include her, children, Carol J. (William) Albright of Racine and Kenneth L. (Joyce) Nauta of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Carri (Steve) Palmer, Lorri (Michael) Malaker, Michael (Erica) Nauta, Scott Nauta, Jodi (Peter) Heldreth and Candace Nauta; great grandchildren, Aaron Palmer, Scott Palmer, Kayla Malaker, Kyle Malaker and Colby Nauta. Velma is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Clifford J. Nauta; her parents; her brothers Robert, Harold, Lee and Charles Rogers; and sisters, Eula Riley, Ruby Jamieson, Vera Riley, Ada Peck and Luella Dodge. Funeral services for Velma will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 16, 2007 at 11 a.m. with Dr. Creighton Kaye officiating. Interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or Evangelical United Methodist Church Chancel Choir. The family wishes to thank Drs.
