Obituary

Susan S. Buchaklian

August 18, 1948 – September 3, 2025

East Troy – Suzan S. Buchaklian (née Cabayan), age 77, formerly of Racine, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Damascus, Syria on August 18, 1948, to the late Sarkis and Marie (née Doumanian) Cabayan, Suzan courageously came to the United States at the age of 18 where she pursued a life grounded in compassion, service, and love for her family and heritage. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Xavier University in Chicago and later a Master's degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee.

On June 12, 1971, she married the love of her life, George Buchaklian. Together, they built a life of enduring love and shared purpose over 54 beautiful years.

Suzan dedicated her professional life to healthcare, starting as an OR nurse and after receiving her master's degree, moved into leadership roles across several esteemed institutions including St. Francis Hospital, Centegra Health Systems, and ultimately Children's Hospital of Wisconsin where she served as Director of Surgical Services until her retirement in 2020. Her work was marked by integrity, compassion, and a deep commitment to patient care and the wellbeing of her colleagues.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Suzan was a vibrant and creative spirit. She found joy in knitting, crafting stained glass art, dancing in Zumba classes, and most especially, cherishing time with her beloved grandchildren during their numerous activities such as soccer, horseback riding, dance, gymnastics, music, and robotics.

She is survived by her devoted husband George; her loving children Chad (Celeste) Buchaklian, Talene (Michael) Schierl, and Adam (Ann) Buchaklian; and her adored grandchildren Ani and Milena Buchaklian, Noah, Gabriella, and Greta Schierl, and Jack Buchaklian. She is also lovingly remembered by her brother Vatche (Katia) Cabayan and their daughters Natalie and Tamar, brother Hriar Cabayan, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
