Shirley Mae Bendix Manitowoc - Shirley Mae Bendix, 79, formerly of Racine, passed away at St. Vincent's Hospital in Green Bay on Sunday, August 3, 2008. Shirley was born in Racine on October 20, 1928 to Birger and Mildred (nee, Linstroth) Helgesen. She married Donald A. Bendix who preceded her in death. Shirley was a very caring person and was a caretaker to many. Survivors include her children, Nancy Lee (Richard) Mayo, Gary L. (Linda) Bendix, Terry A. (Linda) Bendix and Christian C. (Michele) Bendix; grandchildren, Alison (Bryan) Bukowski, Jasmine VanOfferen, Cindy Bendix and Jonathan Bendix; great-grandchildren, Donovan, Brendan, Cian and Lillian; and her brother, Michael Helgesen. Shirley is also survived by other relatives and friends. Private family services for Shirley were held, followed by interment at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to the Racine Zoological Society.
