Obituary

Seon Torosian, age 88, passed away April 12, 2017 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.He was born July 4, 1928 in Racine, Wisconsin, to parents Toros and Mariam Topalian Torosian, and had two sisters, Margaret and Elsie.During his junior and high school days, he played drums with the bands of Les Beck, Kenny Paul Johnson, Norbert Gray, and Dr. Frank Bencashutto.After graduation, he enlisted in the army and was sent to Japan with the Occupation Forces. In Japan, he played drums with the 24th Artillery Division. He played for the officers' dances and entertained the troops.After discharge, he attended Kent State University in Ohio and received a BA degree in Architecture. He also continued playing drums for fraternity and sorority dances.During his architectural career, he designed for the firm Fire Station #7 and the John D. Morley Health Center, both in Akron, Ohio (they both won a three-county Award for Excellence in Design). He also designed the 360-bed Ashtabula Nursing Home in Ashtabula, Ohio (which won a National Achievement Award). He had the privilege of touring the facility with former Astronaut and US Senator John Glenn (who had an interest in the care of the elderly and handicapped). The next day, the local headlines quoted Glenn as commenting on the nursing home as "inspiring."In addition, Mr. Torosian designed buildings, hospitals, schools, water treatment plants, and rapid transit stations. With his partner John M. George, they combined for designing a total of seven fire stations in Ohio and sixteen in Florida.He traveled over seventeen times to Europe for pleasure and skiing, his favorite in Chamonix, France.Mr. Torosian is pre-deceased by his loving parents, Toros and Mariam Topalian Torosian; sisters, Margaret Kirkorian and Elsie Etchison Skenandore, and granddaughter, Tiffany Torosian.He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Torosian; daughters, Gail Sanzone, Karla Lemon, Tracy Torosian; grandchildren, Tyler Torosian, Ashley Torosian Bruening, Brian Lemon, and Rosalie and Eizabeth Nykanen; nephews, Steve and Marty Etchison, and niece, Judy Skenandore Wilson.For over 25 years (since 1991), Mr. Torosian was loved and cared for by his close friend, Beth Fontaine.
