Obituary

Sarkis H. "Sam" Bogosian, 89, passed away August 22, 2025, at Providence Hospital, Mobile, Alabama.

We have lost a man of deep faith and a heart of gold, and he will be missed. He was born in Racine, WI, on April 23, 1936, son of the late Garabed and Saranush (nee: Ekizian) Bogosian. Sam attended Garfield Elementary, Franklin, Jr. High and Wm. Horlick High School, "Class of 1954". He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958 and was a member of the Marine Corp. League. A professional photographer, Sam, owned and operated Samuel's Studio in Racine from 1959 to 1970, and was awarded the title Master-Craftsman of Photography in 1971. In the early 70's, he relocated to Riverdale, GA, to operate ViVi Color, eventually moving to Asheboro, NC, where he was a portraiture instructor at Randolph Technical College. In addition to photography, Sam was very talented at woodworking and made many beautiful pieces of furniture and cabinetry, as well as restoring antiques.

Sam will be deeply missed by his loving better half, Joyce Sweatt of Mobile, AL, his daughter, Sari Bogosian, sisters and brother-in-law, Ann Scantling and Margaret and Jerome Bloxdorf, and nephew and godson Kenneth (Karen) Larsen. Extended family in Alabama: Brenda (Mark) Browning, Alice ( The late Robert) Brown, David Sweatt, and Lucinda (Richard) Blackwell

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his stepfather, Garabed Aghabalian, brother Sarkis Bogosian, infant brother Samuel Bogosian, sisters Esther (Kenneth) Larsen and Rose Bogosian, and brother-in-law Walter Scantling.

A very special thank you to the Sweatt family and the staff at Providence Hospital for their loving and compassionate care given to our Sam in his final days.
