RACINE – Sailendra Nath Basu, 99, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints in Racine on April 21, 2016. Dr. Basu was born in Katihar, Bihar, India in February 23, 1917 to an engineer father. He graduated from Calcutta University with a degree in Medicine and completed his Fellowship at the Vienna Academy of Science in 1955. He practiced in Calcutta and taught at the National Medical College, Calcutta. He worked in Burma and Zambia before coming over to the U.S.A. He joined North Central Health Care as its Medical Director in 1976 till his retirement in 2004. Loved by all that came in contact with him; a wonderful father and grandfather. Survivors include his daughter, Chaitali Dasgupta (Sudip); granddaughter, Soma; grandson, Sanjit; great grandchildren, Derek and Avery; his son, Sudipto Basu (Purnima); granddaughter, Sushmi; grandson, Shayan; great grandson, Ujaan; three sisters and one brother. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sipra in 1976. A visitation for Dr. Basu will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow at 5:30 p.m.
