Obituary

Ruth Mae Madsen (nee Johnson), 92, of Racine, Wisconsin, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 16, 2017 following a brief stay at Agrace Hospice in Madison, Wisconsin. She has lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Mary Madsen, in Fitchburg, Wisconsin for the last two years. Ruth was born in Racine on May 24, 1925, daughter of the late Thomas and Johanna Johnson. She graduated from Washington Park High School in June 1943 and went on to graduate from St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac in May 1948. On September 24, 1949 she was united in marriage to John Henry Madsen, who preceded her in death on March 27, 1999. She worked as an office nurse for several Racine physicians and as a company nurse for Webster Electric and S.C. Johnson. She retired from S.C. Johnson in 1988. After retirement she enjoyed trips with the SCJ Retirees, plays at the Fireside Theatre and the Racine Theatre Guild, and concerts at the Racine Zoo. Ruth enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, knitting, sewing, and in recent years reading. She was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and Living Faith Lutheran Church in Racine. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by family and friends.Ruth is survived by her three children, Andrea (John) Bahr of Edmond, Oklahoma, Drs. Craig (Mary) Madsen of Fitchburg, Wisconsin and Kathleen (Timothy) Draxler of Verona, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Steven Bahr, Jennifer (Nick) Thomas, Michael Draxler, Dr. William Madsen, Alexander Draxler, Eric Madsen, Maren Madsen, and Sean Draxler; one great-granddaughter, Peyton Thomas; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Casser of Wauwatosa; a niece, Dr. Linda Casser (Keith Locke) and other nieces, nephews, and relatives. Funeral services will be held at Living Faith Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Avenue, Racine on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Denise Mbise officiating. Entombment will follow at Graceland Cemetery Garden Crypts. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the services. Memorials to Living Faith Lutheran Church or to a charity of your choice have been suggested by the family.
