Ruth Anzalone Racine – Ruth Anzalone, nee, Marks, 86, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Saturday, December 25, 2010. Ruth was born in South Milwaukee on October 20, 1924 to George and Sadie Marks. She married Robert Smerchek and he preceded her in death on September 17, 1973. In 1977 she married Mike Anzalone who preceded her in death on October 19, 2004. Ruth was employed by Racine Unified School District as a secretary working at Sturtevant School and later working at Schulte School before her retirement in 1986. For over 55 years, Ruth enjoyed playing cards and socializing with her special card club friends. Ruth is survived by her sons, Robert (Maggie) Smerchek and David (Rhonda) Smerchek; granddaughters, Meredith Smerchek, Elizabeth (Arturo) Lorant and Nicole Smerchek; great-granddaughter, Violet Lorant; special niece, Joey; and special friend, Dianne. Ruth is also survived by other relatives and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring Street, on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 10 a.m. celebrated by Rev. William Dietzler. Interment will take place at Caledonia Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul the Apostle church. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Wheaton Franciscan All Saints and Wheaton Franciscan Hospice for all of their care and compassion.
