Obituary

I, Ronald Dean Goetsch, was born at an early age in Wausau, WI to Elroy and Ruth Goetsch. My birth was on December 25th, 1936. Due to this timeliness and not having a rich family, the tradition of only one big present at Christmas was started. I graduated from Wausau Senior High School, now Wausau East, then attended college at George Williams in Chicago. Worked part-time and continued school for the next three years until I joined the Marine Corps. I spent 4 years and 3 months in the Marines, the last years being in Reconnaissance, doing scuba diving, rubber boat work, mountain and parachute jumping. The last 3 months were spent on a Caribbean Cruise looking for Russian ships. After Honorable discharge, I returned to school and graduated from Carthage College, with a degree in Business Administration. Many jobs were had in Chicago and Wisconsin along with night school. In December of 1972, I married Karen Irene Adams of Madison, WI and started a 25-year career at Walker Manufacturing as a Project Engineer. After retirement, I did part-time work for another 10 years. I became a sports junkie at an early age starting in the 1940's listening to Packer games (we did not have a TV), then the Milwaukee Braves and Brewers, the Bucks, Badgers, and Marquette Basketball. While in Chicago, IL, I followed the Blackhawks. I coached basketball, swimming and volleyball. I played competitive volleyball for 45 years and earned a place in in the National Tournament 4 times. I raced Sailboats for many years and was a member of the Racine Yacht Club. As a sports fan I followed my granddaughters in basketball, volleyball, track and soccer from pre-school through college.I am survived by my wife, Karen Irene Goetsch, a daughter, Denise Costanzo, son-in-law Joe Costanzo of East Troy, WI; Two wonderful granddaughters Rachel and Carly Atchison; a son Robert Daniel and daughter-in-law Diane by a previous marriage. Further survived by brothers Elmo (Al) Goetsch of Oklahoma and Nancy Goetsch of California. Four sisters Karen (Goetsch) McCrossin in Oklahoma, Pam (Goetsch) McAllister and Dan McAllister of Delafield, WI, Joann (Goetsch) Bender of Madison, WI and Debbie (Goetsch) Crew and Eric Crew of California. Preceded in death by parents Elroy and Ruth Goetsch, brother Rollin Goetsch, brothers-in-law Gurden McCrossen and Don Bender. Visitation and service will be held at Purath-Strand Funeral Home on Sunday, July 18, 2021, with full military honors. Visitation will be from 12:30 until 2:00 pm with the service beginning at 2:00 pm. A celebration of life will be held at the Racine Yacht Club following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association. A special thank you to Horizon Hospice for their amazing care during Ron's battle with Cancer. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Robert Gullberg for all the years of his care. Rest in Peace.
