RoMayne M. Ruppel Racine - RoMayne M. (nee, Thornton) Ruppel, 92, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare on Thursday, June 19, 2008. RoMayne was born in Racine on August 30, 1915 to Clarence and Johanna (nee, Schatz) Thornton. She grew up in Suring, WI before returning to Racine. RoMayne married Alex Ruppel on May 14, 1938. He preceded her in death on August 28, 1992. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was active in the Braille Group and Bible study. Survivors include her son, Paul (Jan) Ruppel; son-in-law, Ron Bland; 6 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Parker Thornton; sister-in-law, Esther Heffel; and brother-in-law, Frank Putra. RoMayne is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joan Bland; brother, Kenneth Thornton; sister, Bernice Johnson; sisters-in-law, Lil Putra, Martha Sandin and Bertha Chadwick; and brother-in-law, Edward Ruppel. Funeral services for RoMayne will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Kewanee and Erie Streets, on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Daniel B. Quinn officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to Racine Lutheran High School.
