Racine – Rodney Gordon Gummow, 74 went home to his heavenly Father, Monday, September 23, 2013. Rodney was born in Chicago; the only child of Phyllis (nee, Chalkey) Finnegan and John Gummow on January 7, 1939. He spent his childhood, primarily raised by his maternal grandmother, Mimi Chalkey and early adulthood in Chicago before moving to Racine in 1966. He was a dedicated employee of J.I. Case Company for twenty-seven years as a machinist and later a team leader. Rodney was an avid bowler with one of his proudest moments being a 300 game. He enjoyed having coffee with friends and spending time with his family and beloved cats, Bonnie & Clyde. Rodney is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jean; son, Justin Gummow; daughter, Ann (Jake) Patty; and children of his first marriage, Craig (Kathy) Gummow, Susan Trotter and Cindy (Tom) MacKinney; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and former wife, Karen Gummow. Visitation for Rodney will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Avenue on Saturday, September 28, 2013 beginning at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service for Rodney will begin at 12 noon. There will be a luncheon immediately to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Heart Association of the ASPCA. The family would like to thank the staff of Wheaton Franciscan All Saints and St. Francis Hospital for their kind and compassionate care during his illness.
