Robert M. Gonzalez passed at Zablocki VA Medical Center on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
Robert was born in Waukegan, IL to Pablo and Louise (Martinez) Gonzalez. He spent most of his younger years in southeastern Wisconsin or Cotulla, Texas.
He proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17, serving from 1962 until 1968, including two tours in Vietnam.
Robert enjoyed driving semi-trucks. He was a long-haul owner operator for several years before driving locally for Roadway Express. Robert was extremely proud of achieving over 1 million miles of accident-free driving and was well on his way to the 2-million-mile mark before he retired in 2006.
In his retirement, his greatest joys were mowing the lawn and sitting in the garage in his rocking chair watching the traffic go by.
Bob was raised by his aunt Faustian (Tina) and Pedro Cruz and Pablo and Zulema (stepmother) Gonzalez. He was preceded in death by his brothers Edmundo (Joel) Gonzalez and Julian (Esther) Gonzalez and sister Irene (Estevan) Gonzalez.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 26 years Donna Jean, son Brook (Natasha) Brandstrom, daughter Ava Munroe Gonzalez Romashko, mother-in-law Maryann Walker, brothers Ignacio (Leonor) Gonzalez and Pablo (Diana) Gonzales, sisters Esperanza (Humberto) Gonzalez and Martha Martinez. He is further survived by children from his previous marriage Robert Michael, Sonia and Melissa as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Inurnment service will take place in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring Street, Union Grove on Friday, October 16 at 2:45 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at Discover Church, 7311 South 13th Street, Oak Creek, WI on Saturday October 24 at 11:00. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Luncheon to follow.
