Richard Halberstadt Racine- Richard Halberstadt, 85, passed away at his residence on Friday, April 11, 2008.Richard was born was in Racine on January 15, 1923 to Elmer and Sarah (nee: Miller) Halberstadt. He served his country in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division from 1942 until 1946. Richard married Elizabeth J. Towers on August 15, 1946 in Oadby, Leicester, England and they spend 62 wonderful years of marriage together. He was employed by the United States Postal Service as a clerk until his retirement. Richard was a life member of VFW Post 1391, 82nd Airborne Division Association and National Association of retired federal employees. Richard was also an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth J. Halberstadt; children, Joy (Jon) Lippmann, John (Tara) Halberstadt, and Lesley (Darrell) Zoromski; grandson, Bradley Kousek; sister, Marjorie (William) Jensen, sisters in law, Del Mae Halberstadt and Betty Halberstadt; and brother in law, Leslie Towers. Richard is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Glenn and Carl Halberstadt and brother in law, John Towers. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A private family service was held.
