Patricia R. Remus
Mount Pleasant- Patricia R. Remus, 90, passed away at her residence on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
Pat was born in Lake Geneva, WI on December 20, 1933 to Horace and Olive (nee: Wyman) Tower. She married E. Dale Rogers in 1952, and together they had two children, Debra and Skip. Dale preceded her in death in 1955. Pat married Robert Remus in 1957, and together they had four children, Patty, Sue, Bobby and Katie; Pat and Bob later divorced.
Pat grew up with her five siblings in Lyons, Wisconsin, but spent her senior year of high school in Maryland with her Aunt Ruth and Uncle Meade. Upon her graduation, she received Top Secret clearance to become a secretary with the Department of Defense. This is a little known but relished fact of her past.
Pat was a wordsmith who worked as a Certified Medical Transcriptionist for over 40 years. She began her career working for others, but soon struck out on her own as an independent contractor. Her solo business was very successful, and she took great pride in providing excellent service to local doctors and clinics. Her services were in high demand. She managed to run her business while working full-time in the office of Dr. James B. Shack for 22 years. Following Dr. Shack's retirement, Pat was asked and agreed to teach students her craft as an Adjunct Instructor of Advanced Medical Transcription at Gateway Technical College for several years.
Although work was very important to Pat, nothing was more important to her than family. Pat faced many challenges in life and always met them with her feet firmly planted and her head held high. She was fiercely independent and made sure she could take care of herself and her family. She loved and supported her children and grandchildren through many of their own challenges. Pat was an unwavering champion of the underdog. One of her greatest joys as she got older was babysitting her great-grandson Casey four days each week.
Before losing her vision, Pat was an avid reader, a determined crossword enthusiast and a wicked bridge player.
Pat will be deeply missed by her daughters Debra Rogers, Patricia (Daniel) Szymczak, Susan Remus and Kathleen (Joseph) Thurmes, daughter in law Lori Rogers, grandchildren Chad Rogers-Coxhead, Danielle (Travis) Gonnering, Justin (Callie) Rogers, Ian Szymczak, Alaina (Josh) Keeran, Alexandra Coxhead, Robert Henges, Andrew (Molly) Thurmes and Hannah Thurmes, great grandchildren, brother and sister in law Richard (Sally) Tower, brother in law Dominic Anzalone and sister in law Lynn Tower. Patricia is further survived by beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Olive Tower, sons Robert Remus, Jr. and Dale "Skip" Rogers, son in law Paul Coxhead, sisters Betty Bever, Carmen Anzalone and Virginia (Robert) Jensen, brother Horace Tower, Jr., longtime companion Arthur Musurlian and former husbands E. Dale Rogers and Robert Remus.
A heartfelt note of thanks to her daughter, Susan Remus, for the compassionate care and support given in her time of need the past nine months.
According to Pat's wishes, a private family service was held.
