RACINE – Nishan J. Hacherian, 88, passed away at Racine Commons on Tuesday, October 3, 2017.Nishan was born in Racine, WI on October 4, 1928 to Garabed and Serpouhy Hacherian. He served in the U.S. Army. Nishan was a teacher for over thirty years, teaching at Washington Elementary, Janes School and Mitchell Middle School. He opened the world to his students. Nishan officiated on a local level for the municipal softball leagues, refereed football at the college level, and coached girls' high school golf. An avid golfer, reader, photographer, Cubs fan and lifelong member of St. Mesrob Armenian church, he was a humble man who gave joyfully of himself to others. May he now experience eternal joy.He is survived by his niece, Mary Coppens; nephew, John Hacherian; Great-niece, Laura Suesse; Godchildren, Lisa Akgulian and Nishan Akgulian; Gengozian, Kelegian and Akgulian cousins, other relatives and friends; special friend, Mikael Garoukian.He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Eghik Artikian; brothers, Harry (Angeline) Hacherian, Mgrditch Hacherian and Michael Hacherian.Funeral services for Nishan will be held at St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 4605 Erie Street, on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Avedis Kalayjian officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the church on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church.
