He would work the local theater in his spare time between working the farm with his family.Neal graduated high school in May 1956, he was recruited for football and offered college scholarships but declined and elected to serve his country in the Air Force. He entered the Air Force approximately 12 days from graduating high school. Neal served in several Far East locations such as Japan, Midway Island and the Philippines. He learned his trade working as a cryptological equipment electrician. Neal spent a substantial amount of time playing football in the Air Force as well. Traveling to many locations to compete. Neal decided it was time to return home after nearly 4 years of active duty and was selected for "Operation Santa Claus". This allowed Neal to return home a couple months earlier than expected in December 1959. During his time in service he earned the Good Conduct Medal and had a total of 5 years and 5 Months of service including his reserve obligation.Once home, he wasted no time looking for work, and traveled to Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha applying with every manufacturing business he could. On his second day, he stopped in to S.C. Johnson Wax Company, filled out an application and was interviewed. The next day he was hired. He began his 38 year long career with S.C. Johnsons on January 1, 1960 and retired on his birthday July 10th, 1998.Neal was a man of community, he volunteered for 18 years at the Harvest Outreach Food Pantry, and contributed countless hours working the concession stands for the Racine Raider Football program. Neal was married three times in his lifetime. First to Darlene, with whom he had three sons. Scott, Jon and Steven. Neal and Darlene divorced and he later married Amelia, but this marriage was short lived as Amy had succumbed to illness shortly thereafter. He then met Carol Lashley as he would describe throughout the remaining time of his life as his true love and soul mate. Neal and Carol were married on October 4th, 1986. They lived a joyful and loving life together that he would affectionately speak of often. In December 2016 Carol became gravely ill, and Neal was by her side to the end.
