Obituary

After a long, valiant battle with Parkinson's Disease, Nancy finally found peace. She was born in Sheldon, Iowa on October 9, 1943, as the youngest of nine children born to Merlynn Senior and Dove Callenius. On November 2, 1964, she married her high school sweetheart, Cal Meendering and moved to a farm in Caledonia, Wisconsin. Nancy had a deep love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed riding horses and playing softball. She welcomed all into her home; there was always room for more at her table. Nancy's humor was infectious and she lived life to the fullest. She was tenderhearted and always there to lend an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. Nancy shared her zest for life and her sassy positive attitude. Somehow she survived raising three children and every stray they brought home (whether four-legged or two). Every person who crossed her path was affected by her sunshine smile and ocean blue eyes. She danced through life, and found laughter in everything. As we sit here writing this, watching the snow falling so early in the season, we know this is sassy Mom laughing at us once again. Nancy's legacy continues through her children, Michelle (Mike) Roberts, Christie Kern and Tom Meendering, and her grandchild, Shannon Dove Roberts. She is survived by her life-long love, friend, protector, care taker and husband, Cal; sisters Jackie (Leonard) Wersinger, Karen (Bob) Jungers; brothers Merlynn Jr. (Adalene) Callenius, Ken Callenius, Ron Callenius, Wally (Laurie) Callenius, brother in law Weber (Joan) Koester and many nieces, nephews, friends and "adopted" children. Nancy is now reunited in spirit with her parents, brother Al Callenius and sister JoAnn Koester. Our family would like to thank Nancy Melcher, who was Nancy's dear friend who shared laughter and tears. We are eternally grateful to our Russian family member, Liliya Ruffalo, for her love and care and absolutely every moment of support, comfort and strength. We are grateful to the caretakers from Bright Star, Comfort Keepers, Froedtert, and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare. We are forever thankful to the Parkinson's Support Group for their support, information and compassion, and to Cindy Reese, Pavlina Ivanovich, Dee Waldron and Coco Miller for their love and care. Peace.Nancy's Memorial Service is at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 13th at Racine Christian Reformed Church. Her Life Celebration is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 13th at Caledonia-Mount Pleasant (Franksville) Park. The evening event is a potluck, as Nancy always loved potluck dinners (especially desserts). Please don't feel obligated to contribute to the potluck. We request that everyone come to share stories of Nancy or, if you never had the pleasure of knowing her, come and laugh with us
