Obituary
Mladjen "Mike" Popadic, 84, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Ascension All Saints Hospital in Racine, WI surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lokanj, Bosnia on May 6, 1940 to Zarija and Jela (Lakic) Popadic. He immigrated to America on June 6, 1958. Mike was united in marriage to Phyllis Maxine Perry on September 21, 1963. She proceeded him in death on July 26, 2005 after 42 years of marriage. Together, they had 4 children, Dana (Gary) Ford, Eva (Bill) Bansemer, Krsma (Richard) Strohmeier, and David (Laura) Popadic.
Mike was the owner of Mike's and Maxine's Bar and Restaurant and Mike's Live Bait and Tackle. He had a passion for gardening and operated a vegetable stand for many years where he loved to share gardening advice with his customers. Mike also enjoyed traveling, shopping and working in his yard, greenhouse and workshop. He was a longtime member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church and was instrumental in the extensive remodel when the church was first acquired. Above all, Mike adored his family, especially his 6 grandchildren, Brian (Shan) Ford, Eric Ford, Steven Ford, Annamarie (Breton) Keefe, Sara Popadic and Matthew Popadic and his 3 great grandchildren Gemma, Thomas and Drew Keefe.
Mike is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and special friends and neighbors. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Phyllis, his parents Zarija and Jela, his 5 sisters, Anica Popadic, Jelena Popadic, Andja Milicevic, Krsmanija Matic, Ruza Popadic and his brother, Milan Popadic.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the exceptional health care staff at Ascension All Saints Hospital, as well as Dr. Joseph Mathew, Dr. Jonathan Treisman and Dr. Tanvir Bajwa who compassionately cared for him throughout the years.
Visitation will be held at Purath-Strand Funeral Home, 3915 Douglas Avenue, Racine, on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 6 - 8 pm with Mali Pomen prayer service at 7 pm. Funeral services, officiated by Father Predrag Samardzic, will be held at Purath- Strand Funeral Home on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 10 am with interment at St. Nikola Serbian Orthodox Cemetery, 8321 County Hwy V, Caledonia. Funeral luncheon will follow at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 6108 Braun Road, Mt. Pleasant.
