Racine – Mitchell M. Sturicz, 82, went to his eternal rest on Monday, December 12, 2011. Mitchell was born in Kenosha on March 14, 1929 to Michael and Sophija (nee, Lagutko) Sturycz. He married the former Irma Callewaert at St. Sebastian's Parish on August 26, 1950. Mitchell worked for American Motors for 33 years, retiring in 1982. In retirement he moved to Mesa, AZ and lived there for ten years, driving school bus for the Mesa Public Schools. He returned to Racine in 1992 and has lived there ever since. Mitchell loved woodworking. He made hundreds of items and gave most of his finished projects to his family and friends. He made many unique toys for his granddaughter and grandsons. Husband, Father, Grandpa, Mitchell leaves behind Irma, wife, special friend and confidant for 61 years. He also leaves behind a wonderful daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Larry Van Tubbergen; a wonderful son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Celeste (Kirschling) Sturicz; along with a special granddaughter, Natalie Michelle Sturicz-Heiges and her husband Brent; and two special grandsons,Nicholas and Eric Van Tubbergen. Mitchell also leaves behind many dear nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Stanley Sturycz, Joseph Sturycz and Walter Sturycz. A Memorial Mass for Mitchell will be held at St. John Nepomuk Parish, corner of English and Green Streets, on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. A private family inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the church on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wheaton Franciscan Hospice of Racine, WI. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Michael Mullane, Kelly, and his entire staff, and to Wheaton Franciscan Hospice, especially Mary for all of their care and compassion.
