RACINE – Mildred Levengood exchanged her earthly residence for a heavenly mansion on Saturday, September 5, 2015. Mildred was born in Racine on February 23, 1918, and was a lifelong resident. Her parents were Alex and Wanda (nee, Meyer) Kapow. She was a graduate of Horlick High School. With the escalation of World War II and the increasing recruitment of women, Mildred decided to join the Women's Army Corps and served her country for four years. While she was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, orders came in for her to go to Oro Bay, New Guinea, where a general needed a secretary. While there, she met Russ. Following their discharge, they were married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Racine on April 13, 1946. Mildred was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, St. John's Mission Guild and the Lincoln Lutheran auxiliary. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dorothy Johnson and Evelyn Kapow; and nephew, Marc Johnson. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Levengood of Greendale and Louise (Michael) Hansen of Sheboygan; grandchildren, Katie (Michael) Donzanti of Orlando, FL and Scott Hansen of Sheboygan; brother-in-law, Glenn Johnson; God-daughter, Lynn Martinson; and many other relatives in Pennsylvania and Florida.
