Michael Steven Rubel, age 63, passed away at home on Thursday, May 22, 2025, following a long battle with metastatic chondrosarcoma.
Michael was born November 3, 1961 to Robert Rubel and the late Patsy Rubel. He went to William Horlick High School and Gateway Technical College. Later earning certifications in CNC Production Technician, CNC Programmer, and Statistical Process Control Methods and Applications.
On July 11, 1987 he married Joanne Kaminski. In Racine, Mike was employed with Plasworld Inc., Walker Forge Inc., and Hargrave Forge Die Inc. Later moving to Mayville, Wisconsin and retiring in 2018 to Horn Lake, Mississippi after working at Mayville Die and Tool Inc. for 20 years. He enjoyed renovating the houses Joanne and he owned over the years. Mike also enjoyed fishing with the grandkids, cookouts, riding his motorcycles, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
After spending years in Mississippi, he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2022, and returned to Racine, Wisconsin in 2023 to be closer to family and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Patsy Rubel, and his granddaughter, Kaylee Dykstra.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joanne Rubel; his sons, Russell (Sarah) Kaminski and Steven Rubel; grandchildren Allex (Alex), Brett (Morgan), Conner (Brooke), Matt (Haley), Gavin, and Lydia; great-grandchildren, Aspen and Addison; brothers James (Sandra), David (Neva), and Peter (Tracy); sister, Diane; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Michael's family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Ascension Cancer Center, and the nurses at Compassus Hospice for their wonderful treatment and care.
A memorial service for Michael will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 12 p.m. at Purath-Strand Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Mound Cemetery in Racine, Wisconsin.
