Psalm 119:49-50Mary Walter Moore, 80, embraced God's comfort and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 19, 2007. Mary Walter Darwin was the fourth child born to the union of Jimmie and Annie Darwin on April 28, 1927 in Huntsville, AL. Upon reaching adulthood she married her life-long companion, Shelby T. Moore in 1948. The couple had five children: Menrie W. (preceded her in death), Brenda F., Shelby Jr., Doreen P. and Joannetta. In 1954, Mary accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as a personal Savior and served than30 years as a Sunday School Teacher, Junior Choir Director and Choir member under the Pastorate of Dr. M.H. Morgan of the Englewood Church of God and later Emerald Avenue Church of God located in Chicago, IL. She also served as Director of Children's Church at the Faith Church of God in Racine, WI. Children's ministry was Mary's calling as she devoted her life to serving the needs of children in her church service as well as various social organizations such as: Girl Scouts of America, PTA, and in her employment as a food specialist for the Chicago Board of Education. Prior to her illness, she was an active member of the Women of the Church of God, the Women's Gideon Group, and the Racine Prison Ministry. She attended Faith Church of God and in her latter years the First Church of God under the Pastorate of Rev. David Andrews.Affectionately known as 'Baby Ruth' to her family and close friends she leaves that genuine smile and servant's spirit to her children: Son, Shelby (Sandra) Moore, Jr. of Chicago, IL; Daughters, Brenda Sallee of Racine, WI; Doreen P. Williams of DelRay Beach, FL, Joannetta Moore of Calumet City, IL, brother, Conley Darwin of Huntsville, AL; Grandchildren - Tonya D. Moore, Shawn M. Sallee, Rezna Moore-Hill and Houston Weatherly. Great Grandchildren - Ashley Henderson, Shawn Sallee, Jr., Ambryiana Sallee and L.C. Henderson; a spiritual son, Charles McDuffie and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Menrie W. Moore; sisters - Beatrice Jones and Ann Upshaw; brothers - Isaiah Darwin, Johnnie Darwin, and Jimmie Darwin.Funeral services for Mary will be held at First Church of God, 1650 Lathrop Avenue on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Felicia M. Wallace officiating. Interment will take place in Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
