RACINE – Mary Janikian, 88, passed away at Shorelight Memory Care at Siena on Tuesday, November 15, 2016. Mary was born in Boston, MA on October 8, 1928 to Sarkis and Elmas Bournazian. On April 23, 1955, she married Mike Janikian. He preceded her in death on August 22, 1993. Mary was the Customer Service Manager at Porters of Racine, prior to working for Hans Hansen Importers and retiring from Racine Iron & Wire. Mary was an active member of St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church where she served on Parish Council and was a member of the Women's Guild. She loved attending opera and gardening. Mary was also a strong advocate for children and education. Her love of reading was evident by her frequent visits to public libraries. Mary was a devoted wife and mother, a doting grandmother, and a loyal friend. She is survived by her children, Deborah (Philip) Gafka and Thomas (Elaina) Janikian; granddaughters, Marissa (Nirag) Patel, Ani Gafka, Emily Janikian and Elyse Janikian; great granddaughter, Ella Patel; and her sisters, Sarah Parkhurst and Alice (Richard) Guyer. Mary is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a special aunt, Zarouhe Poladian. Funeral services for Mary will be held at St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Yeprem Kelegian officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Memorials may be directed to St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church.
