Obituary
Mary Katherine (Meythaler) Donnelly, passed away at her apartment home in the Primrose retirement center on at Newman road in Racine on Thursday, January 30.
Mary was born on May 29, 1931 to Ray and Lydia Meythaler in New Glarus, WI. Mary moved to Racine in 1953 to become a teacher after graduating with a BA and teaching certificate from Whitewater College. Mary taught second grade in Racine schools for 30 years, educating students at Howell, Lincoln, and Jerstad-Agerholm schools. Mary married Leonard S Donnelly on June 22, 1957 in New Glarus WI.
Mary has two sons, L. Scott and Larry Donnelly. Mary was the middle sister of three. The youngest Margaret Sarbacher is now living in Arizona. Mary's oldest sister Barabara living in Berkely, CA. Mary has six grandchildren : Megan, Katelyn, David and Mariah, Liam and Lauren, and three great-grandchildren Ruthie, Georgia, and Cleo. Mary and her sisters were close, and routinely organized "sisters" reunions for the family.
Mary valued her Swiss roots and traveled twice to Glarus Switzerland. Her favorite activity in retirement was to work in her garden making her wooded lot bloom with beauty. After moving to an apartment at Primrose, Mary's life was made special by her friendship with Lorraine Huff. Lorraine was devoted to Mary in her final days and helped ease her passing. Mary's friends Mike and Molly, and the Steen Larsen family were also a loving part of Mary's life.
A memorial service for Mary will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 9 a.m. at Primrose Retirement Center, 1715 Newman Road, Mount Pleasant. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to Lutheran Charities, 3020 Milwaukee Avenue, Northbrook, IL 60062.
