Marvel M. Smith Racine - Marvel M. (nee, Zehrt) Smith, 98, passed away at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center on Sunday, November 30, 2008. Marvel was born in Caledonia on June 23, 1910 to Frank and Mary (nee, Eggert) Zehrt. She married Richard H. Bethge, II who preceded her in death. Marvel then married John P. Smith who also preceded her in death. Marvel retired from Racine County where she worked at the former Highridge Care Center. She was a member of the BPW, and was an avid outdoors person and fisherwomen. Marvel is survived by her grandchildren, Madeline M (nee, Bethge) Banach and Leo P. (Carolyn) Bethge; great grandchildren, Nicole M. Banach, Tyler S. Banach, Nicolas A. Bethge and Olivia M. Bethge; and her sister-in-law, Lela Zehrt. Marvel is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard H. Bethge, III; daughter-in-law, Juanita Bethge; sister, Laverne Pistulka; brothers, Richard Zehrt, Frank Zehrt and Rev. Carlton Zehrt; and another sister at a young age. Funeral services for Marvel will be held at the funeral home on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Green officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of services. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Odyssey Healthcare and the staff at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center for all their thoughtfulness and care for both Richard and Marvel.
