Racine – Marjorie L. Seavoy, 95, passed away at Hospice House Racine on Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Marjorie (Marj) was born in Greenland, MI on May 18, 1918 to Joseph and Harriet (nee, Carkeek) Blake. She graduated from L'Anse High School. In 1941 Marj married Robert Sands in L'Anse, MI and he preceded her in death in 1963. In 1972 Marj married Walter Seavoy who preceded her in death in 1990. She was a member of the L'Anse United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Lakeside Singers Choral Group. She moved to Traverse City, MI after the death of her husband Walter to be near her only sister, Lou. Following the death of her sister, she moved to Manistique, MI to be near her son Bob and family. During her stay in Manistique she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church singing in their church choir and helping with their pasty making fundraisers. She spent her last year and a half in Racine, WI near her daughter Jo Anne. Marj loved music, entertaining, singing and was recognized throughout her life for her talented piano playing. She enjoyed playing for sing-a-longs knowing that she was giving pleasure to others through her music. Survivors include her children, Jo Anne (Richard) Woelfel of Racine; Robert (Judi) Sands of Manistique; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Louella Elmquest. A celebration of Marjorie's life will be held at the Purath-Strand Funeral Home in Racine, WI on February 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM, with a visitation from 10:30 to 11:00. Burial will take place in the spring in L'Anse, Michigan. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Coral Arts Society or the Senior Companion Program are suggested. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Hospice Alliance House Mount Pleasant for their loving and compassionate care of Marj.
