Obituary

After a long and full life, Marjorie (Makovsky) Green, 100, passed away at Elizabeth Residence on Sunday, September 20, 2015. The youngest of four children, she was born to Edward, Sr., and Agnes Makovsky on November 19, 1914, in Caledonia, where her family had farmed along the Root River since 1855. Known for her kolaches and generous spirit, Marge loved to garden and socialize. She graduated from Burbank School, Washington Junior High School, and Horlick High School. After turning 18, she worked for a number of years at Western Printing Co. Following World War II, Marge married Herman Green and in 1947 they moved from an apartment on Douglas Avenue to a house on Spring Street, where she lived for the next 62 years. She was active in organizations including Reading Circle, the Extension Homemakers, and the Bartlett School PTA. She and Herman became charter members of Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church. Later, Marge supported her daughters' activities in Hoods Creek 4-H Club and worked for a variety of Racine firms through Manpower, Inc. For many years, Marge and Herman enjoyed getting together with their many Makovsky and Green brothers, sisters, and in-laws; playing cards; and spending time at their place near the Wisconsin River and Tomahawk. Following Herman's death in 1981, Marge continued to visit and maintain the Tomahawk property for years. She lived very independently and drove her car until her 92nd birthday. At age 95 Marge moved to Elizabeth Residence in Caledonia, where she received superb care and enjoyed the activities offered. Marge will be missed for her independence of spirit, her outgoing and generous nature, and the wonderful memories and stories she shared about growing up in the early decades of the twentieth century. Predeceased by her parents; brother Edward Jr. (Pearl) Makovsky; sisters; Lydia (Emil) Clark and Pat (James) Madsen, and in-laws. Marge Green is survived by two daughters, Doris Green (Michael Knight) of Spring Green, Wisconsin, and Diane (Kevin) Boyle of Katy, Texas; two grandsons, Casey and Nicholas Boyle; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Marjorie will be held at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, 1700 S. Green Bay Road, on Friday, September 26, 2015 at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Bohemian National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Elizabeth Residence, 5737 Erie Street, Racine, WI 53402 or Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, 1700 S.
