RACINE - Marie Arlene Strom, 87, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Friday, August 12, 2016.Arlene was born in Racine on March 26, 1929, to William A. and Marie (nee: Bogucka) Bogucki. After Marie's untimely death when Arlene was just 2 months old, Arlene was lovingly raised by her father and his second wife Josephine (nee: Zych). She was a 1947 graduate of St. Catherine's High School and a 1951 graduate of Marquette University. On November 17, 1951, she was united in marriage to Clifton Oliver Strom, and together they raised nine children. For most of her life Arlene was a homemaker. When the youngest children were in high school, Arlene worked for H & R Block and then for Dr. Scheller and Dr. Bruton. When her children were at St. Lucy School, she was a member of the Home and School Association and the Altar Society. She faithfully attended mass every Sunday and holy day until she became incapacitated, and she always believed in the power of prayer. Before she became so ill, she loved singing in her church choir, watching classic movies, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, and going with Oliver to their book club meetings.She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Oliver Strom, 8 of her children - Christine (Richard) Wade, Rondi (David) Jenkins, Karen Garner, Theresa (David) Schanke, James Strom, David (Tinker) Strom, Jennifer (Christopher) Baierl, and Margaret Strom. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren -Michael Wade (Tracy Lastovich), Julia Wade (Ricardo Carrillo), Daniel (Veronica) Jenkins, Rebecca (Christopher) Guendel, Thomas Mabry, Brett Garner, Scott Schanke, Sarah Schanke (Rohan Dighe), Alex Baierl and Sam Baierl, and 10 great-grandchildren - Anthony, Kaylyn, Ryan, Jayden, Delilah, Kai, Caden, Kayli, Isabela, and Nico, her sister Alicia Lawrence, her brother Edwin (Shirley) Bogucki, and Oliver's sister Mary (Ernest) Schoenfeld, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son John, and her brother-in-law Burton Lawrence.A memorial mass for Arlene will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (corner of Erie and St. Patrick St.) on Friday, August 19, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at 9:30 a.m. at the church until the time of the service. Private burial will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
