Racine – Margaret Jean (nee, Fraser) Severson, 97, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Saturday, March 30, 2013. She is now in the shelter of the Savior's arms. Margaret was born in Harlowton, MT on October 10, 1915 to the late J.W. 'Bill' and Margaret V. (nee, McKain) Fraser. Her father worked for the railroad in Montana and for a while they lived in a boxcar made into a home. When Margaret was seven, they moved to Port Edwards, WI, where she attended school both there and in Wisconsin Rapids. On December 10, 1938, she married Fern L. Severson in Scandinavia, WI. He preceded her in death on February 13, 1971.During World War II she worked at J.I. Case Company in the Wing Division and after her youngest child was in school she worked in the office at Wisconsin Natural Gas Company until her retirement in 1979.In 1944, they moved to Racine where they raised their five children; Jean Schattner of Union Grove, Gail (Marvin) Clark of Ocoee, FL, Peg Guschl of Racine, Gordon (Sandy) Severson of Racine and Marion (Don) Carmody of Kenosha.Margaret had 23 grandchildren, Michelle Schattner, Scott Schattner, Traci (Randy) Becker, Corey (Meg) Drotzur, Melanie Castillo, Lee (Peereya) Drotzur, Jerri Spang, Jaime (Nick Truckey) Guschl, Stephanie (Mike) O'Toole, Rachel Brehm, Kevin (Terry) Brehm, Marcy (Jamie) Nelson, Lisa (Jeremy Skow) Weidholz and Katie (Nick) Toth, Fayth Ehlert and Leo (Jenny) Carmody. She was also blessed with 30 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren and two nieces and one nephew all of whom she adored. She was lovingly called 'Grams', 'Our Little Angel' and 'Great-Great' by her grandchildren. She was always like a second mom to them. Most important to her in life was her Savior and her family. She treated everyone with love and respect. Hugs and kisses and a joyful smile, we always felt her love for us. She was gentle, caring, kind and had a calming spirit about her.Preceding her in death was her sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Bill Converse; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mildred and Alren Severson; and son-in-law, Don Schattner.Funeral services for Margaret will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening, April 4, 2013 at 6 p.m with Pastor Ron Auch. A private family interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. The family would like to thank the staff at Ridgewood Care Center for their care of Margaret and a special thanks to Dr. Crevier for all of her care and compassion.
