Obituary

LeRoy F. Roberts STURTEVANT – LeRoy F. Roberts, 95, was called to eternal life on Thursday, November 10, 2016.LeRoy was born in Racine on December 27, 1920 to Francis G. and Harriet T. (nee, Hamich) Roberts. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. On June 14, 1947, he married the former Edna E. Walters. LeRoy was an Automotive Engineer at American Motors Corp. for over 31 years, retiring in 1982. LeRoy (Lee) and Edna started their family in Racine and enjoyed living in a wonderful mid-century home LeRoy designed and built on highway 38. They later moved for a short time to Baltimore, Maryland, and then on to Greenbrook, New Jersey. LeRoy and Edna returned to live and continue to raise their family in Racine. Lee was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and was National Technical Service Manager for AMC. LeRoy was an active member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on the Board of Directors, Stewardship Board, the School Board and served as an Elder. At Racine Lutheran High School, LeRoy was a member of the Men's Club and a volunteer for the Lutheran High School Thrift Shop. He was also President of the TI-99 Computer Club. LeRoy was a licensed A & E Mechanic.Lee was a member of the Somers Snow Goers Snowmobile Club and enjoyed bow hunting and bird shooting. He loved the peaceful hours spent fishing with his wife Edna and happily and skillfully taught his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to fish. His enjoyment of boating, waterskiing, windsurfing, kayaking, snowmobiling and bowling, were only outshined in his later years by his love of carving and woodworking.He will be dearly missed by his wife, Edna Roberts; and their children;- Julie (Roy) Hagen and their children, Robert (Kimeko) Hagen, Brian (Rachel) Hagen, Kevin (Katie) Hagen and LeRoy's great grandchildren, Katlyn Matson, Kersten Matson, Chelsey Van Gompel; Kyra, Tyler, Niall, Quinlan Hagen; Ezekiel Hagen and preceeded in death, great-granddaughter Carlie Joy Ann Hagen.-Janice (James) Fleming their children and step-children, Peter (Christina) Schmidt, Christopher (Paul) Lemons-Schmidt, Jamie (Daniel) Kiesl, Jonathan (Julie) McLaren, Jennifer Fleming, Meghan (Ken) Moody and LeRoy's great-grandchildren Isaac Schmidt, Grace Schmidt, Ellie Kiesl and step-great-grandchildren, Aubrey McLaren, Ian McLaren, Avery Johnson, Rastin Moody.-James (Faye) Roberts and their children, Coe (Jessica) Roberts, Hannah (Thomas) Kavanaugh, Micah Roberts, Jacob Roberts and LeRoy's great-grandchildren, Finley Roberts, Caitriona Kavanaugh, and Raegan Kavanaugh.-John (Amy) Roberts and their children, Jackson Roberts and Robyn Roberts.-Jeffrey (Anita) Roberts and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He also was preceded in death by his parents; brother, mother-in-law; father-in-law; and sisters and brothers-in-law.Funeral services for LeRoy will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, corner of Erie and Kewaunee Streets, on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the church on Monday morning from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to American Legion Post 310, the St. John's Endowment Fund, Racine Lutheran High School or a charity of one's choice.The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff at Hospice Alliance for all of their compassionate care.
