Racine – Lawrence J. "Zirk" Zirkelbach, 84, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Tuesday, February 8, 2011. Zirk was born in Racine on June 13, 1926 to Henry L. and Anna (nee, Jung) Zirkelbach. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Zirk married the former Elaine J. Reinke at St. Rose Catholic Church on September 17, 1949. He was foreman of the Box and Puzzle Department at Western Publishing Company, retiring in 1982 after more than 40 years. In retirement, Zirk worked for Washington Properties for over 20 years. Zirk was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He played baseball, bowled and was an avid Cubs fan. He also belonged to the Johnson Park Retirees Golf League and enjoyed camping with family and friends. Zirk loved all sports and was a big Packer fan. Zirk is survived by his wife, Elaine J. Zirkelbach; daughters, Sandra McKenna, Cheryl (James) Deibler and Debra (Jesse) Villarreal; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Audrey (Tony) Maritato, Nancy Zirkelbach, David (Barbara) Zirkelbach and Linda Gonzales; and sister-in-law, Mary Reinke. Zirk is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Irving Sartell; and son-in-law, Robert McKenna. A Mass of Christian Burial for Zirk will be held at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on Kinzie Avenue. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. and at the church on Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
