RACINE – Lawrence "Lem" Scholzen, 86, passed away at home on Saturday, September 20, 2014. Lem was born in Racine on December 31, 1927 to Nicholas and Elizabeth (nee, Holler) Scholzen. On October 20, 1962 he was married to Natalie Johnson who preceded him in death on April 11, 1995. Lem served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from James Cape & Sons where he was a mechanic for many years and a member of Teamsters Local 43. Lem really enjoyed being out on Lake Michigan in search of perch. He was a big fan of NASCAR racing and liked watching the Packers. Lem is survived by his sisters, Marie (Charles) Peohlman, Joan Potenziani, Rita Jaskulske, and Donna Ferguson; sister-in-law, Bev Scholzen; nephews, nieces and cousins. Lem is further survived by his son, John Johnson; grandchildren, Debra (Robert) Christensen and Donald Johnson; great-grandchildren, David, Tina and Brandon; and great-great-granddaughter, Natalie. In addition to his parents; Lem was preceded in death by his brothers, John, George, Charles and Robert; and his sisters, Margaret and Dorothy. Funeral services for Lem will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Wheaton Franciscan Hospice.
