RACINE- Lawrence R. McCalvy, 79, passed away at Froedtert Hospital of Cancer complications on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. His wife Wendy, his four children, sister Arlene, niece Shelley and two grandsons all of Milwaukee were in attendance.Larry actively participated in local organizations. He served on the Tri-County Library Board. Larry was a photographer for the Racine Volunteer Center. He served as President of the Lakeshore Repeater Association and was the Founder of the Amateur Radio League of Wisconsin, with his help the Caledonia Historical Society moved an early twentieth century train station from Sturtevant to the park on 5 Mile Road in Caledonia. Larry helped upwards of seven groups apply for and receive their 501(c)3 statuses. In the 90's Larry was trustee on the Caledonia Town Board, championing small business development. He was the President of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Council, a consortium of all military branches, which was the only Wisconsin group to march in Bill Clinton's inaugural parade. Larry served in the Marine Corps and subsequently in the Army Reserves as a career counselor. For 30 years he ran a horse boarding stable in Caledonia with his wife Wendy. A memorial service for Larry will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 until the time of services. Memorials to the Racine Public Library have been suggested.
