Mesa, AZ – Laurel G. "Klonk" Klonkowski, 85, passed away in Mesa, AZ on Friday, January 28, 2011. Klonk was born in LaCrosse, WI on July 17, 1925 to Helen Klonkowski. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre. Klonk married the former Elizabeth Kofta in LaCrosse on August 28, 1948 and she preceded him in death on March 19, 2000. He was a mechanic at Racine Steel Castings for over 25 years until his retirement. Klonk was a member of Moose Lodge #437 for 42 years and was also a member of the Racine Elks, American Legion, VFW Post #1391 and the LaCrosse Eagles. Survivors include his two daughters, Mary L. Taylor of Racine and Sue Del Prato of Mesa, AZ; two sons, Laurel (Kay) Klonkowski, Jr. of Franklin, NC and David Klonkowski of Newburgh, NY; daughter-in-law, Karen Klonkowski of Racine; grandchildren, Kenneth L. (Katie) Taylor, Jr., Jason (Erica) Klonkowski, Kristine Klonkowski, Pamela (Erich) Jaeschke and John Klonkowski; great grandchildren, Ty, Bo and Knox Taylor, Brandon and Jacob Jaeschke. Klonk is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Walter Kofta and Joseph (Harriet) Kofta; sister-in-law, Linda (Otto) Butzman; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother; son, John Klonkowski; and grandson, Matthew Klonkowski. The Moose Lodge Pilgrim Service of Tribute will be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. immediately followed by his funeral service with Rev. John Fleming officiating. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the services.
