Obituary
She was born in Evergreen Park, IL on January 23, 1959 to the late Kenneth O. and Rosalie C. (nee: Didier) Johnson. The family moved to Mundelein, IL in 1966. Kris was a 1977 graduate of Mundelein High School. She earned her bachelor's degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1984.
Kris worked as a newspaper reporter for many years. Later, she worked as a medical editor where she was named editor of the year in 1990.
On August 6, 1993 Kris married Bob Cantwell and the two began a new career as over the road truck drivers for CRST, Cedar Rapids, IA and then became owner- operators. Kris and Bob traveled the lower 48 and each achieved two million miles of safe driving.
Kris was employed at Fritz's and later Buca's Bar and Grill in Caledonia as a weekend bartender. She enjoyed working for her customers and friends during this time.
She loved watching the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and other sports at Buca's and the Country Pump. Kris was a member of the Racine Moose Lodge #437 and spent many fun afternoons drinking and laughing with friends.
After being diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in November 2022, Kris's friends organized a beautiful benefit which she described as the best day of her life.
Kris is survived by her husband of 30 years Bob Cantwell; her siblings Margi (Trevor) Will, Dave (Myrna) Johnson, Keith (Deena) Johnson, Steve Johnson and Lisa Davis. She is further survived by her sister-in-law Sharon Johnson; her step-children Kimberly (Trace) Usadel, Debbie (Rich) Glowacki, Robert "Butch" (Tami) Cantwell, Michael Cantwell, and Amanda Riend; her nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews, step-grandchildren and great step-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her rescue dog, Scooter.
In addition to her parents, Kris is preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law Larry (Gertrude) Olson, her brother Ken Johnson and her step-daughter Marie Cantwell.
A celebration of Kristine's life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Racine Moose Lodge #437, 5530 Middle Road, Racine. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the lodge.
