Kenneth (Ken) J. Akerlund
Passed peacefully at Aurora St Lukes South Shore in Cudahy on May 8, 2025. Ken was born on August 2, 1931, to Harold and Amanda (nee: Dahl) Akerlund in Racine.
Ken grew up in Racine and graduated from Horlick High School in 1951. Following high school, he was a member of the Army National Guard. He later worked in Sales in several capacities, retiring from Porter's of Racine in 1993. On June 5, 1971, he married June Timm (nee: Mueller). Ken was a kind man with a great sense of humor, but his passion was golf.
They retired to live full-time in The Villages, Florida where they spent 21 wonderful years golfing and socializing with many friends. Ken golfed nearly every day in Florida and had his first hole-in-one in June 2006 and his second hole-in-one just 2 weeks later.
Ken was a true sports fan following the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Milkman and Pro Bowler tours. Ken was a good bowler and won various state and city tournaments. He was the Racine Men's Bowling Association Board Member and eventually President in the 1980's. He was an occasional fisherman and loved the trips to Canada with his brothers.
In 2016, Ken and June returned to WI to be near family. June preceded him in death on April 29, 2019.
Surviving are his daughters, Cindy (Benito) Martinez of Milwaukee, Linda (Les) Liegel of Middleton, Sue (Neil) Weiher of Milwaukee and Karen (Jeff Krueger) Wilbershide of Racine. Further survived by his grandchildren: Kenneth (Ellaina Gorske) Larsen, Mariann Larsen, Michael (Kelsey) Holt, Sarah (Bryan) Bartos, Hanna (Colton) Griffis, Becca (Alex) Zellner, Kyle and Carly Liegel. Four great-grandchildren: Justin Larsen, Nolen Zellner, James and Connor Griffis. As well as nieces, nephews and many, many friends in WI and FL.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters in law, Robert (Arlene) Akerlund and Donald (June) Akerlund, sisters-in-law
Barbara Hylton and Nancy (Earl) Awve, aunts, uncles, cousins and other family.
Visitation will be at Purath-Strand, 3915 Douglas Ave, Racine on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, 11:00 am to 12:00 noon with a memorial service following. There will be a private burial. Lunch will be served at Infusinos's Banquet Hall, 3201 Rapids Dr, Racine.
