Obituary

Kathleen (Fraker) Betker, 82, died peacefully at Aurora Medical Center Mount Pleasant on Sept. 7, 2024.

Kathleen was born on Feb. 18, 1942, in Chicago, Ill., to Mary Berenice (née Fallon) and (Flavius) Joseph Fraker. She had one older sister, Ann (Elden) Stockey, whom she loved dearly. Attending Mother McAuley High School strengthened Kathleen's faith and prepared her for pursuing a degree in nursing at Loyola University. For a period of time, she worked as a medical secretary at the American Medical Association until she was promoted to the best job of all, becoming a wife and mother.

Through mutual friends, Kathleen met the love of her life, Ronald Felix Betker, and in 1964, they were united in marriage. Sadly, he passed away in 2016. Ron and Kathleen had three children, Ann (Mark) Widmar, Laura Betker (Kyle Kewenig), and James (Allyson) Betker. Kathleen was blessed as a grandmother and had seven grandchildren: Max (Holly) Widmar, Emma Widmar (Dylan Kleitsch), and Alexis, Grace, Cameron, Addison and Cole Betker. She was their number one fan and enjoyed being on the sidelines and in the stands at their sporting and school events.  To say she was proud of them, is an understatement. Kathleen's life was rich in a multitude of ways, including the way she enriched the lives of others.  In their younger years, Kathleen and Ron were active in the Racine Jaycees helping the Racine community. Kathleen was a Park Panther by choice and never missed a beat when it came to Park High School sports. She also enjoyed trips to the Wisconsin Dells with her family, Bingo at Roma Lodge and trips to the casinos. Kathleen was a devout Irish Catholic and belonged to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. She opened her heart, her hugs, and her home to anyone in need. In her final days, she belonged to the community at Kenosha Place Assisted Living, where she received excellent care and formed memorable friendships. A special thanks to Laura Lassiter, the staff and caregivers for their unwavering support.

A memorial Mass for Kathleen will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 6400 Spring Street, on Friday September 20, 2024 at 6 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of Mass at 6 p.m. She will be buried at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, alongside her husband, in Union Grove.
