RACINE – Karen A. Schmidt, 77, passed away at Ascension All Saints Hospital on Thursday, March 30, 2017.Karen was born in Racine on November 25, 1939 to Sydney and Florence (nee, Bleichwehl) Lorence. On September 3, 1960, she married LeRoy Schmidt. Karen retired from Roeschens Omnicare in 2001. She served as a Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher and PTA president. She also served as Treasurer of the Wisconsin Taxidermy Association, President and Treasurer for the Racine County Extension and an officer with the Community Garden Club and Franksville Business Association. An avid traveler, she traveled all over the world. Karen was a survivor of Cancer and heart surgery. She always stated "Every day is a gift" and she lived every day to the fullest. She loved to cook, bake and craft to remember people with gifts, but most of all her family was her most cherished possession. Survivors include husband LeRoy Schmidt; sons, Chad (JoAnn) Schmidt and Cory (Tara) Schmidt; daughter-in-law, Ann Schmidt; grandchildren; Mark and Alanda Vicker, Josh (Rosie) Brunner, Amanda (Ian) Bordagaray, Shannon Schmidt and Ashley (Jordan) Baker; eleven great grandchildren; brothers, Charles (Karen) Lorence and Rodney (Karen) Lorence; and sisters-in-law, Mary (Don) Sykes and Shirley Fellion and Herbie Hotchkiss. Karen is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Troy Schmidt.A funeral service for Karen will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening, April 7, 2017 at 7 p.m. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family who will be providing a memorial bench in her honor.
