Obituary

Judith M. Huener

Oak Creek - Judith M. Huener, 91, passed away peacefully at Elizabeth Residence on Thursday, February 20, 2025. This gentle, loving, fiercely smart and sometimes feisty mother of seven will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Judy was born in Clintonville, WI on October 29, 1933, to Rev. Walter O. and Louise (nee: Andres) Speckhard. She grew up with seven brothers and two sisters, whose love and friendship deeply shaped and influenced her. She attended Valparaiso University, where she met Delmar Huener from Napolean, OH. They were married on December 28, 1954, and enjoyed fifty years together before Del preceded her in death on August 31, 2005. Judy was an amazing cook and a wonderful seamstress, and she always made time to read. Having married an athlete and sports fan with exceedingly firm opinions, Judy soon made it clear that her home was Green Bay Packer territory. Judy loved to laugh; she was a gifted conversationist with a terrific sense of humor. Judy also loved to sing with her brothers and family, and when distance no longer allowed them to sing in the same room, they sang over the phone together. Uncle Mick was especially adept at navigating Judy's increasingly eclectic list of favorites, but they always ended with beloved hymns. Toward the end of her life, when other communication became difficult, familiar hymns and songs came through clearly in her lovely soprano.

She is survived by her children, Joel (Cindy) Huener of Roseau, MN, Katie Huener of Milwaukee, Julie (Nate) Bickel of Racine, Jerry Huener of New Carlisle, IN, Susie (Paul) Scheyder of Niantic, CT, and Jessica (Justin) Begus of Seattle, WA, 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and brother John (Gloria) Speckhard. Judy is further survived by her best friend and sister-in-law, Johanna Speckhard, dozens of truly beloved nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Del, son Ted, six brothers and two sisters.

The family would like to especially thank the incredible staff at Elizabeth Residence in Oak Creek, whose love and care for our mom was unparalleled. We are also grateful for the spiritual care provided by Pastor Chris Lockie from Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Racine, who regularly visited and gave our mom an opportunity to worship and sing.

A worship service will be held at St. Martin Lutheran Church, 100 S. Clinton Avenue, Clintonville, on Saturday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow in St. Martin Lutheran Church Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

If you would like to remember our mother with a gift, we gratefully request that it be directed to Lutheran World Relief ( https://lwr.org).
