Josephine Britvich
Racine – Josephine Britvich (née Rizzuto), age 100, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 7, 2025, surrounded by love and cherished memories.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 21, 1925, Josephine was the beloved daughter of Nicola and Josephine Rizzuto (née Salamendo). On November 9, 1946, she married the love of her life, John Britvich, at St. Mary's Church in Chicago. Together, they built a life filled with devotion, laughter, and family, raising their daughter Joann with unwavering care.
Josephine dedicated many years of service to Northern Trust Bank, where her professionalism and warmth left a lasting impression. Her generous spirit extended beyond the workplace. She found great joy in volunteering at Northern Illinois Medical Center, offering comfort and kindness to those in need.
A lifelong lover of stories, Josephine could often be found immersed in mystery and romance novels or enjoying Hallmark movies that mirrored her gentle heart. She treasured time with her family, especially their lively poker games, which were filled with laughter and love. In her later years, she embraced travel with her senior group, forming lasting friendships and collecting joyful memories.
Josephine's faith was a guiding light throughout her life. As a devoted member of the Society of the Little Flower, she continued to honor her beliefs by watching Sunday Mass from home, even in her later years.
She is survived by her loving daughter Joann Stubitsch; granddaughters Amy Stubitsch and Sara Robinson; and great-granddaughters Emma and Hannah and their father Randy, who brought her endless pride and joy.
Josephine was preceded in death by her beloved husband John; her brother Buster; and her sisters Mildred Vrchota and Dolores McCreary.
Her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A private memorial service to be held with inurnment at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Evergreen Park, Illinois. Memorials can be made to Woof Gang Rescue in Racine, WI.
