RACINE – John C. Worrell, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home with his wife and children by his side on February 15, 2017. John was born in Niles, Michigan on July 2, 1926, the son of the late Donald S. and Carrie E. Worrell. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving his country aboard the USS Hollandia Bay during World War II. He recently proudly participated in an Honor Flight in which he felt the appreciation from his country for his years of service. He graduated from Western Michigan University in 1950 and completed post graduate study at University of Colorado in Boulder. John began his career at Sinclair Oil Co., followed by Wyandott Chemicals, the Upjohn Company before coming to Racine in 1970 as Vice President at Western Publishing Company., serving as President of Golden Books. He later joined Andis Company as Executive Vice President, retiring in 1991. John contributed to Racine in many ways, including serving on the board of directors of St. Mary's Hospital from 1976 to 1984, chaired the building committee when the Spring Street site first began, and was chairman of the board from 1978 to 1981. He also served many years on the board of directors for Careers Industries including chairman of the board. He was a dedicated volunteer at the Bong State Recreation Area beginning in 1992. His favorite activity was taking school groups on educational nature hikes through Bong. John and his wife, Roseanne, traveled the USA and Canada in their motor home with much adventure and enjoyment. John was a great story teller and loved to play bridge. John is survived by his wife, Roseanne; children, Richard, Jeff (Andi) and Jennifer Worrell; step daughter, Susan Krupp (Craig Alvarez); grandchildren, Devon (Cameron) Pope, John (Carly) Worrell, Lee Worrell, Anthony Krupp, Savannah Krupp (Zach Barnes), Corey Krupp (Kelli Kainz), Jacob Krupp and Rachel Krupp (Tyler Odders); great grandchildren, Declan and Hudson Pope, Lucy Worrell, Charlotte and Jackson Barnes, and Hunter Kainz; and sisters-in-law, Lorraine Pavelcik and Loretta Denig. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Della (nee: Koontz); and his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Marge Worrell. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family for a memorial visitation at the funeral home on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to either Careers Industries or the Bong Naturalist Association are suggested.
