John S. LePoidevin"Jack"Racine- John S. "Jack" LePoidevin, 80, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare on Thursday, February 4, 2010.Jack was born in Racine on August 19, 1929 to Harry R. and Ida (nee: Gullickson) LePoidevin. He is a graduate of St. John's Military Academy of Delafield, WI, and served in the United States Army with the 226th Signal Company of the Korean Base Section during the Korean Conflict. Jack married Patricia Anne James on September 10, 1955; she preceded him in death on January 31, 2001. He worked at the Racine Journal Times as National Advertising Manager. Upon his retirement he began working in the travel industry. Jack was a past member of the Racine Country Club, Kiwanis Club and past president of the Racine Advertising Federation. For more than eight years, Jack served as chairman of the annual Safari Day celebration at the Racine Zoo, and for many years on its board. He enjoyed photography, traveling and was an avid reader. Most importantly Jack loved being a father and grandfather. Jack is survived by his children, Dean (Ruth) LePoidevin of Sussex, Linda LePoidevin of Racine and Gail Oversen of Goshen, Indiana; grandchildren, Elliot, Alec and Zachary LePoidevin and Drake and Spencer Oversen; sister, Dr. Jean LePoidevin of Bradenton, FL; brothers in law, Richard and William James of Racine and sister in law, Eleanor James of Mequon. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Gwyn Laustsen of Aberdeen, SD.A memorial service for Jack will be held at the Purath-Strand Funeral Home on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Donald Johnson officiating. Inurnment with full military honors will follow in Mound Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services.
