Obituary

John Joseph Conlon

May 20, 1951 – August 15, 2025

The one thing that John cherished most in life was his relationship with God through his Savior Jesus Christ.  John was ushered to heaven and now joyfully lives in eternity with our Lord.  John was an active member of Grace Church where he participated in the Friday morning men's group.

John was born in Connecticut and lived in four of the six New England states during his childhood.  He later moved to several other states ultimately planting roots in the Racine, WI, area where he has lived for the past 35 years.

He received a Bible degree at Cedarville University in Ohio and studied at Word of Life Bible Institute in Upstate NY.  Prior to this, he studied culinary arts in Providence, Rhode Island.  One of his favorite stories to tell was when he helped prepare dinner for President Ford.

John was an avid artist with a unique way of seeing intricacies of color, variations, and tones.  He always said that the first question he wants to ask God when he arrives in heaven is "Why did you make color?"  John used this unique talent during his 23-year career as a dedicated Lab Technician at S.C. Johnson where he created the color formulations for their scented candles.  John excelled in this position and you can still see his work in the candle aisle of your favorite department store.  Before his tenure there, John was a unit counselor at Shepherds in Union Grove.

He enjoyed several eclectic hobbies including the Raggedy Ann Rally and The 3 rd New York Regiment of the Continental Line (Revolutionary Reenactment).  John made very meaningful and longstanding friendships within these groups.  He also had quite a knack for identifying period furnishings and loved making quilts.  Travel was another great interest where his world tour adventures took him as far north as Iceland, as far south as Australia, and lots of places in between.

John also had a passion for music especially playing the piano and singing in local church and community choirs.  During his college years, John was a member of Word of Life Traveling Choir where they performed at different venues all across the country.  He particularly loved singing bass in their quartets.  Little known fact, John once appeared on American Bandstand way back in the day!

John is survived by his closest friends (family), Erin Fleming and Patrick Tetzlaff; his sister Rosemarie Dipaolo (Emilio); his brother Butch Alpaio; four nieces, and two nephews.

Heartfelt appreciation to Lee Smith, Jeff Schallhorn, Luke Greenwald, Pastor Matthew Lautz, and the 5 th Floor Staff at Eastcastle Place for their love, compassionate care, and support during these past several months.
