Jerome James Schelling, Jr.Racine- Jerome James Schelling, Jr., 81, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare on Tuesday, October 25, 2011.Jerome was born in Racine on July 27, 1930 to Jerome and Edna (nee: Brandt) Schelling. He was employed by J.I. Case for 38 years and was a member of the Case 20 year club. Jerome was in the first graduating class of the 'new' Racine Lutheran High School. He loved his family dearly and was extremely proud and pleased that he had 6 kids that enjoyed each other's company and did everything together. Jerome was active in Burbank 4H, and performed in minstrel shows at Tabor Hall, which was at 5 Mile and Douglas Ave. He was an avid Packer fan; even calling Tiger Stadium one Thanksgiving to tell Vince Lombardi to 'get Bart Starr out of there!' Jerome was always singing, and regularly entertained patrons of the old Giovanni's Supper Club, with his rendition of 'Put another log on the fire.' He was lovingly referred to as 'noisy grandpa' by his grandchildren, because of his loud voice. Jerome grew up farming and was a passionate gardener all of his life. Although he had a roadside stand to sell his vegetables, he would share with neighbors and never take money. He always said, 'You grow enough for yourself, your neighbors and the animals.' He is dearly loved and will be truly missed by his children; Joline (Steven) Fonk, Jeffrey (Pam) Schelling, Janell Jewell, Jonathan (Karen Luxem) Schelling, Judith Schelling, Jacqueline (Kurt) Krueger; grandchildren, Frank DeRango, Jr., Jessica Schelling, Jordan Schelling, Ashley Schelling, Chelsea Jo Schelling, Jennifer Jewell; great granddaughter, Madelyn Jo Best and special friends, Bill Hart and Sandy Hahn. Jerome is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents Jerome and Edna (nee: Brandt) Schelling, sisters Betty Williams and Mary Jane Olson, brother Rev. James Schelling and former wife, Martha Jo Schelling.Funeral service for Jerome will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will take place. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials to Racine Lutheran High School or Trinity Lutheran Church have been suggested.
