Obituary

Nichols, Jean GlaeserRacine- Jean Glaeser Nichols, 96, passed away at home on January 2, 2018.Jean was born in Bonduel, Wisconsin to Clara (Schwartz) and Rev. William Glaeser, a Methodist minister. His appointments included small churches in both Wisconsin and Washington State, necessitating many moves throughout Jean's early years. At 16, Jean graduated from high school in Latah, Washington and immediately went on to college at Washington State College (now WSU) in Pullman. She earned a BA, then an MA in Art Education and Home Economics, and taught in those subjects. She later studied interior design in New York City. It was there that her brother, Walter, introduced her to Charles (Nick) Nichols. In 1953, Nick and Jean married and settled in Racine. Aside from raising two children and later caring for her mother, Jean stayed busy assisting Nick on many design projects in his career in real estate and commercial development. In addition to being an excellent cook, photographer, and artist, Jean took pride in her home and yard. Later in life, she also enjoyed rummage and estate sales and keeping current in politics. Her demeanor was always gentle and kind. She is survived by two daughters, Wendy (Marion) Sodnik of Wauwatosa and Tracy Nichols of Racine, along with two grandchildren, Lauren and Michael Sodnik, of Wauwatosa. Jean was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Walter Glaeser, and last year, her husband, Charles. In keeping with Jean's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. A family gathering will be held at a later date.Special thanks to the staff of Ascension-All Saints Hospital, Aurora Health Center and Mayo Clinic for all of the fine care and support throughout the years, and most recently, Aurora Home Health and Grace Hospice.
