Racine – James E. Doane, 85, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Jim was born in Racine on September 14, 1928 to Walter and Augusta (nee, Einerson) Doane. He married the former Edith Ruth Sawinski. She preceded him in death. Jim retired from Kappus Bakery after more than 31 years. Jim was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Tuesday Duffer's Golf League. Jim also loved NASCAR racing and going out to dinner at the Corner House and enjoyed many hot beef sandwiches with family and friends at Russ's Tap. Survivors include his daughters, Linda (Bill) Terpstra and Heidi (Don) Cole; grandchildren, Jennifer Terpstra, Robyn (Jason) Simrell and David Cole; great-grandchildren, Mina Rodriguez, Roman Rodriguez, Claire Simrell and Brenden Simrell; special friend, Mary Bunck; and his favorite grand puppy, Molly. Jim is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold Nitzke; sister, Louise Breitchaft; and his best friend and canine companion, Misty. Funeral services for Jim will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1501 Erie Street, on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jack Gilbert officiating. A private family interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Saturday afternoon from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 3 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the American Lupus Society or the American Diabetes Association.
