Obituary

RACINE – James Chambers, 93, passed away at Franciscan Villa in south Milwaukee on Monday, March 28, 2016. Jim was born in Chicago, IL on November 26, 1922 to Frank E. and Nellie (nee, Hunger) Chambers. He married the former Helen Magdech in Racine on May 14, 1955. She preceded him in death on February 15, 2008. Jim served in the U.S. Army. He retired from J.I. Case Company in 1987 after more than 35 years. In retirement he worked for Lakeview Pharmacy for 10 years. Jim was a Hall of Fame pitcher in the Amateur Softball Association. He pitched in the ASA Men's Major Fast Pitch National Championship where he held the record for most strike outs in a game. His performance earned him recognition in "Ripley's Believe It or Not". He played for the Chicago Match, and locally with Metal Parts, Von Schrader and Brusha's Club. Jim is survived by his devoted daughter, Mary Chambers. A visitation for Jim will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening, April 1, 2016 from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 5:30 p.m. A private interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park.
